What is Friendship From Service Lodge?
The Lodge was founded on the 3rd February 1960 The Idea of founding such a Lodge originated from W.Bro. F A Bishop, who had discussed the possibilities with W.Bro A G Lewis and W.Bro L Driver during their service together in Ghana. On his return to the UK W.Bro Bishop, further discussed his idea with W.Bro J Martin and W.Bro E Reeley, after they had met at a Masonic meeting in London. As can be imagined there was a great deal of discussion on the proposal and no doubt a tremendous amount of enthusiasm which culminated in the founding of the Lodge. The main stated objective in the formation of the Lodge, shared by the founder members was the foundation of a permanent Lodge, especially for those Brethren who had been Initiated or had joined Lodges abroad whether with the Armed Forces or in a civilian capacity. With such a facility of Friendship from Service Lodge the Brethren could meet and have may aspects in common.
We are a London lodge which meets four times a year our regular Lodge meetings are held on the fourth Saturdays in February, April, September and November at Freemasons Hall 60 Great Queen St, London, WC2B 5AZ U.K
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry means different things to each of those who join. For some, it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For others it’s about being able to help deserving causes – making a contribution to family and for society. But for most, it is an enjoyable hobby.Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisation. It teaches self-knowledge through participation in a progression of ceremonies. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry.
Freemasons Hall is the centre of Freemasonry in the UK and is the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England.
